Yes! I'm Accepted!
Now What?

Congratulations! You are now officially a Lamar Cardinal! We want to make your transition to college easier by providing you with this checklist of things to do next.

  • Memorize your student ID number. Find the number beginning with "L2" on your acceptance letter.
  • Activate your LU e-mail address. Instructions are sent to the e-mail address you provided in your admission application.
  • Provide Lamar University with proof of bacterial meningitis vaccination or exemption. You must do this before you can register for classes. State law requires all new students under age 30 who attend on-campus classes to either receive a bacterial meningitis vaccination or meet specific criteria for declining the vaccination. Click here for additional details and necessary forms.
  • Take a Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Exam. Unless exempt, students must take a TSI assessment test such as the Accuplacer or THEA to determine their readiness for college-level work before being advised and registering for classes. Exemptions from TSI testing include qualifying SAT, ACT or TAKS scores. Contact the LU Career & Testing Center to register for the THEA or Accuplacer.
  • Meet with an academic advisor. Students can schedule an appointment to meet with an academic advisor prior to registering for classes at New Student Orientation. Click here for a list of academic advisors by major.
  • Register to attend New Student Orientation. At orientation, you will meet your advisor, register for classes and learn more about student life. Choose from six orientation sessions on June 7, 14, and 23 and July 14, 19 and 26. Go to lamar.edu/orientation to register.
  • Apply for Housing. If you plan to live in Cardinal Village on campus, start the housing application process by sending an e-mail to housing@lamar.edu. In the subject line, list all semesters you need housing (Summer/Fall/Spring 2012-2013). In the body, include your name, student ID#, telephone number and gender. After your acceptance to LU is verified, you will receive an e-mail with instructions on what to do next. Room assignments cannot be completed until students have registered for housing AND registered for classes. For more information on living in Cardinal Village, go to lamar.edu/housing.
  • Pay tuition and fees. Pay at least 50 percent of tuition and fees no later than Aug. 23 to avoid being dropped from your classes. You can pay in person at the Cashier's Office in Wimberly 114 or online through your student account, using Self-Service Banner. Click here to access Self-Service Banner.  Your User ID is your student ID# (starting with L2). Your initial PIN is your six-digit birthdate (MMDDYY).
  • Apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships. The priority deadline is Feb. 1 for scholarships and March 31 for financial aid. Even if you missed the deadlines, you might still be eligible if funds are available. Click here for details on applying for financial aid, and click here for details on applying for scholarships.
  • Download the LamarMobile app for your smartphone. The free app includes a directory, maps, course schedules and more to provide LU info on the go. Go to m.lamar.edu for details.
  • Send LU records of any previous college-level work. If you previously took college classes, including through co-enrollment or dual credit programs in high school, have the college or university that offered the program send your official transcript to LU. If you took any Advanced Placement examinations, have your official scores sent to LU by calling the College Board at 1-877-274-6474. You will receive an e-mail notification after your credit has been applied to your LU record.
  • Purchase required textbooks. The Lamar University Bookstore can help you find new, used or electronic copies of the books you need for your first semester of classes.
